Pacing Fundamentals

MODULE 2

Working with, and listen to, your body to find the right pace

Once you understand the fundamentals of Pacing, the next step is to find your individual stressors and cues because Long COVID and post-viral conditions present differently for different people. In this module, you’ll learn:

  • Dos and don’ts of Pacing
  • What are stressors and body cues, and a worksheet to support you to find your personal body cues
  • Effective prioritization and energy management to limit the impact of post-infection conditions

You’ll finish this module with a deeper understanding of Pacing and the range of elements that Pacing can include. You will also develop a personalized view of signals your body sends to help you pace effectively and a feel for what elements to use for yourself.

MODULE 3

Why Pacing is important and how it helps you manage symptoms

Get deeper knowledge about Pacing strategies for Long COVID or other post-infection conditions, and why they work to manage symptoms and improve how your body’s systems function. In this module, you’ll learn:

  • The how and why post-viral recovery is different from other recoveries - this isn’t about de-conditioning
  • Overview of how the body is impacted by  Long COVID and post-infection conditions, and what you can do to reverse some of those impacts
  • How to avoid the yo-yo effect of crashing. Get out of an up and down cycle with limited progress, to experience sustained improvement

You’ll finish this module with a much deeper understanding of how Pacing impacts the body and an understanding of why Pacing is so important for those experiencing post-infection conditions.

MODULE 4

Your personalized Pacing approach

In this last module, we go deeper and put everything together, supporting you to develop a personalized Pacing strategy that will serve you throughout your recovery journey, and beyond. In this module, you’ll learn:

  • What your stressors are, and identify simple habits and boundaries that can help your health
  • How to reduce stressors that tax your system
  • What makes Pacing challenging, and tips to get past those hurdles
  • How to safely introduce activity as part of Pacing

At the end of this module, you will have identified ways that you can incorporate effective Pacing tools into your daily routine. You will also know how to use Pacing tools for energy management to control what you can control and feel better.

We are Katie and Andrea

We want to share our story with you. Katie (pictured right) knows firsthand how frustrating and isolating it can be to struggle with Long COVID symptoms. She has been there, feeling lost and worried, hearing from doctors that all her tests are coming back “normal”, but knowing she was unwell and facing near and long-term implications on her health.

For too long, Katie looked to recover using tools that served her well before Long COVID. These didn’t help and instead she was stuck, experiencing frequent crashes and limited improvement in symptoms and resilience. 

Finally she was able to create space and drew on her professional experience to work out what may help. She had spent over 10 years working as an economist in the health sector, using data and evidence to support care improvement for people with complex conditions She started diving into research papers, which highlighted both the near and long-term health risks of doing nothing and that they were larger than she initially thought. Evidence also showed that it was possible to take action to feel better. She knew she had to come out of this cycle and get on a recovery path.

We are passionate about sharing what we’ve learned with you. Katie knows how it feels to find sympathy, but limited support from doctors, and feel like no one understands what you’re going through because you look fine.

Our goal is to empower you with the knowledge you need to achieve better symptom management and pacing is one essential tool.

Katie was where you are and knows how hard it can be. But we are here to tell you that it is possible to feel better and live your life more fully again. Andrea (on the left) is a personal trainer. What Research Offers


Covid-19 is a relatively new virus. The scientific and medical community are continuing to learn how it interacts with the body and what causes complications people face. We will understand more about Covid-19 as time goes on, just like other health issues such as heart disease and cancer. With cancer and other conditions, solutions have been developed and honed over time. However, where knowledge exists, we haven’t waited to treat people, and to make a difference. Like with other conditions, we need to use the information we have today to support those with Long COVID and other post-viral conditions - that process will help people in the near term and build understanding over time.
